Ray is ooit begonnen als professioneel pianist lichte muziek. Reeds in 1986 fotografeerde hij al

veel in Amsterdam.

Ray werkte 22 jaar bij computercollectief aan de Amstel in Amsterdam. Na het faillissement heeft hij

zich gestort op professioneel bezig zijn met fotografie, video en grafisch ontwerp.

Het werk van Peter Martens neemt binnen de Nederlandse fotografie een unieke plaats in. In 1969 werd hij als eerste fotograaf in Nederland toegelaten tot de Beeldende Kunst Regeling (BKR). Dit was niet alleen een erkenning voor zijn eigen werk maar ook voor het medium fotografie als beeldende kunst. In 1953 voltrok zich in grote delen van Nederland een enorme natuurramp, veroorzaakt door een storm bij springtij.
