Op 15 november 2005 werd Louis Sévèke in het centrum van Nijmegen doodgeschoten. Hij was een politiek activist en journalist en daardoor een bekend persoon in Nijmegen. De moord maakte een diepe indruk. Na een langdurig politieonderzoek van een jaar en vijf maanden, heeft de verdachte de moord bekend. Op 7 maart 2008 werd hij veroordeeld tot een levenslange gevangenisstraf voor de moord op Sévèke. De veroordeelde ging niet in hoger beroep en zit al bijna twaalf jaar vast.
