Al vanaf zijn vroege jeugd legde Rudy Becker verzamelingen aan. Toen waren dat nog speldjes, sleutelhangers en sigarenbandjes. Na het overlijden van zijn oma kwam er een schoenendoos met gelegenheidsmenukaarten boven water. De oudste kaart waarop zijn familienaam prijkte, was er een uit 1903.
