Wie Rotterdam zegt, denkt aan bouwen. Na het vernietigende bombardement van 14 mei 1940 werd de stad letterlijk opnieuw opgebouwd. Dat bombardement wordt - pas sinds 2008! - officieel herdacht. De wederopbouw is al vier dagen na het bombardement in gang gezet, toen stadsarchitect Witteveen opdracht kreeg een wederopbouwplan te maken. Aan den slag! Daarom viert Rotterdam op 18 mei Opbouwdag. Op 18 mei 1947 was de eerste Opbouwdag, dus in 2022 viert Rotterdam 75 jaar wederopbouw.
