Bishop John Charles Ryle (1816-1900) was a prolific writer, faithful pastor and preacher. His classic “Expository Thoughts on the Gospels” are among the finest expository writings ever written on the Gospels. They are a combination of doctrinal and practical comments on the text and are written in simple, plain English. According to the Bishop “The “Expository Thoughts” are not a learned, critical commentary. They were written to make them suitable for use at family prayers; as an aid to those who visit the sick and the poor; and for private reading, as a companion to the Gospels. His expositions should be part of every Christian's library and carefully read.
