This large-format monograph covers the last two decades of projects by the Dutch partnership of Lode Havermans and Abe Hielkema, designs which are characterised by their "unspectacular simplicity", using straight lines and right angles as a way to eliminate arbitrariness. The architects aim not to create a better future, or comment on matters outside of architecture, but rather to make a useful contribution to the built environment. The selection of fourteen featured projects allows an in-depth look at the architectural perspectives that define them, while the inclusion of a complete list of works ensures nothing is omitted from this comprehensive portrait of the office and its practice.
